The Institute of Education, Gombe State University is envisioned to be a leading centre for educational training, research, professional development, and extension for the promotion of professional skills and values for personnel at the basic, post-basic and tertiary levels of education in Gombe State and Nigeria.
The objectives of the Institute are to:
offer professional development training programmes for teachers, school administrators and other education personnel in the Nigerian education system;
engage in research on educational issues specific to Gombe State, Nigeria and the world at large;
provide on a part-time basis all full-time degree programmes of the Faculty of Education;
provide forum for the dissemination of research output and ideas through conferences, workshops, symposia and publication of journals, newsletters, and books;
engage in community outreach and partnership to enhance educational reform and advancement;
organise sandwich and non-degree programmes in education as part of community service responsibility of the University;
collaborate with (staff of) the Faculty of Education in the professional preparation of teachers;
coordinate all affiliation services of the University with other institutions;
provide consultancy services to public and private educational institutions and agencies in the areas of educational research, management and staff development;
serve as the representative of Gombe State University on education policy formulation at the state and national levels; and
establish linkage with similar institutes within and outside Nigeria on common educational and developmental matters.
To produce conscientious well rounded professional educators and researchers through technology supported learning programmes, pedagogies and tools for academic and professional pre-service and in-service training.
To become a leading Centre for educational training, research, extension, professional development and consultancy (services) for the promotion of professional skills and values for the benefit of Gombe State, Nigeria and humanity.
